I sit stare out the window
watch the world go past

Boys and girls run down the street

Smiling and laughing all day long

But I’m not watching them at all

I’m wishing you could come home

I still can’t get over the fact that you’re gone

Gone from me and gone forever

 

I sit and stare, looking through
the windows of my past

I sit and think, wondering why
these windows are closed to me
I fall asleep and dream of them open

But wake with a start knowing they never will

 

He lies in bed remembering her face

Her smiling eyes and the way she laughed

He wonders if today could be the day

But the curtains are pulled the windows are opened

The sunlight streams in and the moment is lost

Gone from him and gone forever

 

He sits and stares, at her photo on the wall

Trying to open windows to their past

He sits and thinks, begging them

Just to open for a while

He falls asleep and dreams of the open

But wakes with a start knowing they never will

 

You sit in the park looking at the water

You try to remember his face

He left you all to suddenly, snatched away

On that cold, unforgiving night

Walking past shop windows you see your face

Reflected back, and you imagine him there

But you have to move on home and he’s

Gone from you and gone forever

 

You sit and stare at his side of the couch

Sunlight streaming in from the open window

You sit and think, what it would be like

For you to have him back one last night

You fall asleep and dream of windows of your memories

But wake with a start and realize they’re just dreams

 

We all sit and stare and hope the windows open

But as time passes our memories shut the windows tight

We sit and think what it would be like

If they could be opened one last time

We all fall asleep and dream of the opened wide

But them we wake with a start

Tears streaming down our faces as we realize

Our memories are dying, the windows are closing

 

We all wish we could have never failing memories

Keep the windows open forever

But soon we have to wake up

Stop our dreaming and accept they are gone

Gone to us and gone forever
